<title>THE OTHER FACE OF HISTORICAL PLASTERWORK</title>
<link>http://www.makeindustries.co.uk/page8.htm#70380</link>
<description>I had the good fortune to go to a historical plaster studio the other day. The plasterwork was great but the moulds used to cast the fibrous plaster were equally interesting piled high on shelves in ice cream colours. So heres some pictures dedicated to the unsung heroes of the plastework restoration process

<title>MONOCHROME DECODE AT THE VA</title>
<link>http://www.makeindustries.co.uk/page8.htm#69932</link>
<description>Another belated entry on the blog this time from the DECODE exhibition at the VampA. A great use of craft techniques and pattern to give a touchy feeley aspect to digital art. Loving the monochrome trend too.

<title>NATIVITY MODELS FROM KRAKOW POLAND</title>
<link>http://www.makeindustries.co.uk/page8.htm#66696</link>
<description>I just came across these photos on my camera from last Christmas and HAD to put them on here
These are images from a huge exhibition of Szopka nativity scenes from Krakow in Poland. There is an annual competition for the best model which started in 1937 and is now a famous tradition.
There are complicated and perfect entries by serious grown ups but also lovely messy ones by children too. They all take inspiration from Wawel Castle in Krakow by the way in case you were wondering why they dont look much like Bethlehem You can usually spot a green dragon too from the old tale of the dragon that sat at the base of the Castle.
Great colours great materials. Its so good to see architecture depicted in a fun way.

<title>FINE CELL WORK AT THE VA QUILTS EXHIBITION</title>
<link>http://www.makeindustries.co.uk/page8.htm#62419</link>
<description>The Quilts exhibition at the London VampA is now on until 4th July 2010 and is well worth a visit httpwww.vam.ac.ukcollectionstextilesquilts17002010
By far the best exhibit for me was the work by Fine Cell Work who were comissioned by the VampA to produce a piece for the exhibition. It is a contemporary depiction of prison life conceived and designed by prisoners involved in the project and sewn in HMP Wandsworth.
In total 53 inmates contributed to the piece and helped to chose the basic design to reflect the architectural footprint of the prison broken into subsections of cells and embroidered images and words. The accompanying video interviews from some of the inmates involved are just as engaging and really put a new persepective on craft and the personal meanings associated with it. I found myself watching the interviews over and over and being able to put a history and a voice to the work made it even more poignant and relevant.
The rest of the exhibition was fairly predictabl...</description>

<title>MINIMALIST CROSS STITCH</title>
<link>http://www.makeindustries.co.uk/page8.htm#56545</link>
<description>This is a present for a friend which might be developed into a future product. The phrase Less is More was cross stitched in minimalist light grey onto 14ct white Aida and then framed.
The phrase is often associated with Architect Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe but I discovered that it can also be found in the 1855 poem Andrea del Sarto by Robert Browning

Who strive you dont know how the others striveTo paint a little thing like that you smearedCarelessly passing with your robes afloatYet do much less so much less Someone saysI know his name no matter so much lessWell less is more Lucrezia.

<title>BT RESTAURANT TO REOPEN</title>
<link>http://www.makeindustries.co.uk/page8.htm#51355</link>
<description>
The revolving restaurant at the top of the BT Tower in central London is to be reopened for the first time in nearly 30 years

According to the Times Online BT has recently begun searching for a bigname chef to oversee the restaurant that has not been open to the public since 1980 when the Top of the Tower venue closed after 14 years. It was shut partly because of security fears. In 1971 an IRA bomb exploded in the lavatories.
We cant wait to experience the 360degree view over London which apparantely takes about 20 minutes to complete a circuit.
